Supporting UBC Heat Student Athletes

UBC Heat varsity athletes have displayed their excellence in a variety of sports and are deeply committed to a high level of performance. While striving to excel in the classroom in pursuit of a first-class education, students also volunteer in the community, train for their sport, and compete in varsity events at the highest level of amateur competition in Canada. Such diverse obligations leave little time for paid employment.

Exceptional athletics programs are built with the help of exceptional supporters. Supporting our varsity athletes enables the university to enhance the athletic experiences of its students and to ease their financial burdens. UBC has various ways for alumni, friends, and community supporters to contribute to the success of Heat teams and individual student athletes.

Adopt an Athlete Program:

The Adopt an Athlete program allows donors to direct their gift to the team of their choice. Donations support the acquisition of specialized equipment, enhanced training, access to high-level competitions, and student financial and travel-cost assistance. Gifts to this program empower student athletes to achieve their potential whether it’s in the classroom, on the court, or on the playing field.

Endowed Scholarships and Awards:

Awards are one of the most effective tools for attracting and retaining the most talented students, ensuring they are well supported financially and rewarded for their strong performance. The university bestows special varsity awards on outstanding members of varsity teams, and the annual Valley First UBC Okanagan Scholarship Breakfast is another effective way of giving since UBC matches every dollar that is raised through ticket sales, doubling the impact of the gift and contribution to athletic excellence. Funds raised at this event contribute to an athletic endowment which creates awards for UBC Heat student athletes for generations to come.
