The Special Children’s Dental Program offers free basic dental and preventive services to low-income school-aged children from the Lower Mainland who are not eligible for existing government-funded programs. Children receive dental services during the academic year at either the UBC Dental Clinic or at a satellite dental clinic at Douglas College in New Westminster.
Dental students and dental assisting students develop their knowledge and skills in the provision of paediatric dental care. They also gain valuable insight into the health needs of children with limited access to dental services.
About Community Outreach and Service Learning
Being a great dental school means stretching beyond the laboratory and the classroom. It’s a commitment to serve dental professionals and the larger community through outreach and community development efforts.
UBC’s Faculty of Dentistry has established a strong track record for developing and implementing new community programs to serve individuals with limited access to dental care as well as providing valuable experience for our students.
Our leading community outreach programs involve faculty, students, and alumni and facilitate several unique service-learning opportunities.
